Summer Internship Program

A very important part of Japan America Learning Center’s Summer Program is the internship position. It has proven to be a wonderful opportunity for college-bound students to explore their interests in teaching, creative abilities, and communication skills. Past interns have used the experience on college applications, teaching credits for school, and letters of recommendation for entrance into the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET Program). Classroom time with certified instructors, whether with 1 student or 100, is extremely valuable to anyone with teaching aspirations for the future.

Your responsibilities as the intern are to assist the supervising ESL instructors during classes in whatever fashion they require based on class time.  Traditionally this means:

2.Textbook/material review with a student or small group
3.Offering ideas on existing activities for review of material covered in   class (we are firm believers in utilizing creativity in our classes and encourage all of our teachers/interns to participate)
4.Be relaxed and have patience with the kids
5.If asked, be in charge of review games (we have several to choose from and you will be instructed in all -- or feel free to come up with something of your own)
6.Always being on time
